WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough voters will head to a new polling place on Election Day, months after town officials received state approval to use the space.
All six precincts in Westborough will vote at the Community Center at 1500 Union St. The change will begin with the Nov. 3 general election, Town Clerk Deborah Ledoux announced on Monday. Voting will take place on the first floor.
The Select Board approved the polling location change on Sept. 8. The change takes effect immediately and applies only to Election Day voting.
Meanwhile, early voting will continue to be held at Memorial Hall inside Town Hall, 34 West Main St.
Westborough received approval from the Massachusetts Elections Division this spring to use the Community Center's lower level for future elections. Town Manager Kristi Williams, Ledoux and Assistant Town Manager Kim Foster toured the space with a state Elections Division representative as part of the approval process.
At the time, Williams told the Select Board that officials were targeting September for the space to be ready, which would provide enough time to use it for the November election.
"As of now they're still thinking September, which would give us plenty of time to have our November elections there," Williams said during the May meeting.
Westborough had previously held townwide elections at Westborough High School, and the town's March 10 Annual Town Election was held in the high school gym.
The town will mail a notice about the polling location change to every Westborough household with at least one registered voter. The notices should arrive by Oct. 5.
