WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough will receive nearly $1 million in state grants to support infrastructure improvements and planning for future development.
The town received two fiscal 2027 awards totaling $958,000 through the state's Community One Stop for Growth program, Gov. Maura Healey announced Thursday. The funding includes $808,000 for sewer line rehabilitation and $150,000 for the 495/9 Gateway Initiative.
The larger award comes from the HousingWorks Infrastructure Program and will support sewer and wastewater improvements. Sewer capacity is a fundamental requirement for development projects, according to the state's project description.
The Community Planning Grant Program award will pay for market analysis and community engagement related to the 495/9 Gateway Initiative. The work is intended to help unlock development potential along one of MetroWest's strategically located commercial corridors, according to the state.
Westborough's grants are part of $330 million awarded to 403 economic development and housing projects in 207 Massachusetts communities. State officials said the projects are expected to support more than 27,000 new homes, more than 13,000 permanent jobs and over 7 million square feet of new commercial development.
The awards represent the largest single funding round in the history of the Community One Stop for Growth program, according to the Healey administration. The state estimates the projects will help unlock $24.6 billion in private investment.
"These awards will turn underused properties into new homes and businesses, strengthen downtowns, create good jobs and unlock billions of dollars in private investment," Gov. Healey said in the announcement. "That means more opportunity for families, workers and businesses in every part of our state."
