The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts Holds 2nd Annual Advocacy Day

The BIA-MA has two major advocacy efforts, the Cognitive-Rehabilitation Bill and funding for the Statewide Head Injury Program (SHIP).

From The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts: The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA) is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Advocacy Day, to be held on the 2nd Floor Grand Staircase of the Massachusetts State House on February 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM.

Legislators, brain injury survivors, family members, BIA-MA staff and volunteers will gather at the State House to continue to emphasize the importance of continued legislation to bring support and services to individuals with brain injury. Last year over 200 participants joined BIA-MA at the State House. This year, Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders, Massachusetts State Senator Harriette Chandler and Representative Kimberly Ferguson will be addressing the audience. All are encouraged to attend and join BIA-MA for this important event.

“Advocacy Day presents a tremendous opportunity to speak with local legislators,” BIA-MA Executive Director Nicole Godaire said. “Whether you’re sharing your personal story or advocating for brain injury in general, there is no better place to tell our stories than where this critical legislation is being passed.”

The BIA-MA has two major advocacy efforts, the Cognitive-Rehabilitation Bill and funding for the Statewide Head Injury Program (SHIP), the latter being a collaborative effort between BIA-MA and the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC). Both pieces of legislation would provide invaluable resources and services to the brain injury survivor community. More information on Advocacy Day, including registration for the event, can be found at biama.org/advocacy.

The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts is the first and oldest organization in the state to offer support and resources to brain injury survivors and their families. This, in addition to providing prevention programs, educational trainings, and legislative advocacy. In March, BIA-MA will host their 36th Annual Brain Injury Conference and will continue furthering their mission to create a better future for survivors and their families.
