IMAGE GALLERY: Sounds of Jazz Fill Bay State Green

The weather was perfect for a picnic in the park.

On Monday night was alive with the sound of music. Residents flooded the park to enjoy a night of jazz with performances by the Jazz Band, Jazz Band, Repertoire Jazz Ensemble, Westborough High School Jazz Combo, and Westborough High School Festival Jazz Ensemble.

From 5 to 7:30pm, Bay State Green became a sea of picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and families who soaked in the warm sunshine and great music. Children, parents and grandparents enjoyed a casual picnic dinner while catching up with neighbors and friends, all while being serenaded by the sweet melody of songs such as Tuxedo Junction by Buddy Feyne. From quiet, intimate pieces to loud, boisterous ones, there was something for everyone.

Young children ran and played on the open grass, tossing a beach ball and playing games of tag and Indian Chief. Little girls in sundresses and bonnets danced without a care in the world. Little boys donning shorts and baseball caps wrestled and played on the lush green grass. The atmosphere was light, carefree, and joyous.

Student musicians entertained with ease to a captive and enthusiastic audience. Here, a sense of small town community was almost tangible. As the sun began to set, classical music filled the air and townsfolk went home with full bellies, soothed souls and with a renewed spirit to face another long week of work and school.
