IMAGE GALLERY: Spring Festival Offers a Taste of Westborough

The Food Festival on Saturday showcased 16 local restaurants.

The Food Festival was a highlight among the many events at the Westborough Spring Festival. Saturday, April 30, marked the ninth annual event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Westborough. This was the first year the festival was held at the Bay State Green at Bay State Commons.

“This is the first year the festival has been a two-day event. The Taste of Westborough Food Festival allowed the local restaurants to showcase their specialty dishes,” said Westborough Spring Festival Chair Carol Borglund.

Crowds descended upon the multitudes of tables set beneath two large white tents. The 16 local restaurants that participated donated food for the event, providing a large buffet of free food samples for festivalgoers.

Folks patiently waited, armed with Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils, to sample brochette and devour The meatballs and fried ravioli. Individuals eagerly circled the table displaying Italian cream cake, which was as large as a small child. The vanilla chiffon cake held layers of fresh strawberry preserves mousse and sweet ricotta cannoli filling, which sat beneath an outer coating of fresh Italian cream frosting.

Carefully balancing mounds of fresh pasta, pizza and more food samples on disproportionately tiny plates, individuals made their way across the commons to the stage. Live local music groups performing on stage on the opposite side of the Green added to the festive mood as residents enjoyed good food and great company.
