Legislature Says 'OK' to Selling Westborough State Hospital to Town

Town meeting approved the sale last year, and now the bill to approve the sale has passed.

Last October, voters approved at Town Meeting to purchase the Westborough State Hospital property from the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, and a bill authorizing that sale was approved last Thursday, reported the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

Westborough is buying the 95 acres where the state hospital was once located for $2.2 million.

Residents have held brainstorming sessions to decide what to do with the property, throwing out ideas such a recreational use or senior housing.
