The swoop, slide and dive. And they are fascinating. Birds of prey can also be symbols of freedom and power. They are fierce hunters, too, armed with such things as sharp talons, hooked beaks and keen eyesight.

Naturalist Tom Ricardi brings you up close and personal with live raptors such as eagles, falcons, owls, kestrels and hawks on Saturday, March 28, in “Meet the Raptors: Massachusetts Birds of Prey” at 10 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 17 Willow St.

Learn about these raptors’ habitats and behavior and discover how the Massachusetts Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Facility cares for injured birds and runs its captive breeding program. Ricardi’s pioneering work with bald eagles has resulted in captive-bred eagles reproducing in the wild and captive-bred chicks being adopted into wild nests, according to a press release.

These birds that have been injured and cannot survive in the wild are part of a successful educational and breeding program. All ages are welcome. Donations are appreciated.
