MetroWest Martial Arts Opens at New Location
New 74 Otis St. facility boasts 1,000 more square feet than previous studio.
It took over four months to make the move and finish the remodel, but MetroWest Martial Arts is alive and kicking at its new location at 74 Otis Street.
Al Gallo, better known by his students as Master Gallo, is part-owner and Master Instructor at MetroWest Martial Arts. He explained to Patch that “we needed to get more space to accommodate growth and we also wanted to be in a more visible location.”
Gallo noted that his studio had been located at 180 Turnpike Rd. (behind ) for the past six years and was not very visible.

The new location is highly visible with close proximity to the intersection of Route 9.
Gallo is excited about moving the business and said, "Things seem to be going okay. I think we’re going to have a good fall.”

The location became available when the existing business, , reduced their square footage, which gave MetroWest Martial Arts a lot of room to work with. “We opened up a wall and built out the space.”
“We’re in the same building and use the same entrance as ,” explained Gallo, adding that students will enter through the first set of double doors and then take an immediate left turn to enter his studio.
Upon entering the new 3,000 square foot studio, visitors will find a large waiting area with several glass windows to watch the classes in action. MetroWest Martial Arts will also sell karate animal patches in their lobby, as well as many other martial arts items directly through a catalog.
Gallo, a Seventh Degree Black Belt and his business partner Joe Baker, an instructor and Worcester firefighter, offer a multitude of martial arts classes to students from Westborough and neighboring communities.
Shaolin Kempo Karate classes are offered for all levels and all ages, and the studio reinforces its core beliefs of teaching self control, self respect and self discipline, words which can be found displayed on the studio walls.
“It’s all about working with the community,” Gallo told Patch as he explained that the studio works with the for certain classes.
The youngest group is the Tots Group geared to ages 4-6. The children learn martial arts and also work on focus, burning energy and building coordination.
The Kids Group is for ages 7-12, and they focus on fitness conditioning in combination with martial arts.
Gallo believes in keeping the Tot and Kid classes fun for the children and is known for rewarding them at the end of a demanding class with a few minutes of dodge ball or a freeze pop. “The kids love their freeze pops,” Gallo told Patch.
MetroWest Martial Arts also offers regular karate classes for teens and adults. In addition, the studio will teach Yoga, Tai Chi and Kickbox Bootcamp this fall.
“If I had to pick the most popular class, I’d have to say Tots. I’ve had some kids who have been with me since they were Tots and are now starting the Teen class,” Gallo said.
MetroWest Martial Arts is now open and is accepting new students and welcoming returning students. A Fall Open House may be scheduled to showcase the new space. In the meantime, additional information is available at:
