Music Fest Coincides With New CD

Singer-songwriter Tom Potosnak is among the performers scheduled to play at the event, which is part of the Westborough Spring Festival.

Singer-songwriter Tom Potosnak has performed for very few audiences lately.

Guests at the Westborough Spring Festival Music Fest this Saturday will hear selections from the reason why.

"Subject To Change," the Westborough resident's third CD, came out earlier this month.

Music Fest is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's part of the Westborough Spring Festival hosted by the Rotary Club of Westborough.

"This festival really is the first thing I have going on, performance-wise, in a while," said Potosnak, who owns Exhibit Sense in Westborough ("we design and produce trade show exhibits for companies" for trade shows).

"When I'm recording, I really don't perform, because it takes a long time to put together a CD from writing the songs to perfoming them, getting different musicians to do things along with me."

"Probably in the fall, that's when I'll start ramping up a bit, because that's a great time for a guy like me. I usually play my shows on my own. The summer time, people are on vacation. The 35-and-up crowd really appreciates my stuff. And when the fall comes and people are gathering back in, they want to go out on a Friday or a Saturday night to see a show, my show is appealing."

Potosnak performed at Music Fest last year, he noted.

This time, he'll play tunes from each of his CDs, as well as familiar ones.

"The title track (to 'Subject to Change') was written about a situation where I went back to my hometown in New Jersey because one of the guys I went to school with was just diagnosed with a serious illness and passed way," he said.

"I kind of rode around town, went back to the old places I used to go to."

The Music Fest schedule is: 10 a.m.: Elwood Craze; 11 a.m., Penguin Apocalypse; noon: Luanne Crosby; 1 p.m., Tom Potosnak; 2 p.m., Still River; 3 p.m., High School Quintet.
