Westborough Library To Move Back To West Main Street: Here's When
The Westborough Public Library is preparing to leave its temporary location and return to its longtime home.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — The Westborough Public Library is preparing to leave its temporary location and return to its longtime home.
The library plans to reopen at 55 West Main St. during the first week of November following an extensive building repair project, library officials announced Tuesday. Its temporary location at 1500 Union St. at Bay State Commons will close at 5 p.m. Sept. 23 so staff can complete the move.
Services at the temporary library will be limited beginning Wednesday through Sept. 23. Public printing will be unavailable, while Wi-Fi and computer access will be limited.

Next Tuesday will be the final day patrons can place new holds for pickup in Westborough before the move, the library said.
During the closure, Westborough library cards can be used at other C/W MARS member libraries and patrons will continue to have access to the library’s digital resources. The regional network allows cardholders to borrow from its shared catalog and use thousands of ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and videos.

Westborough Public Library Renovation Project
The library has operated from 1500 Union St., Suite 101 while work continued at its West Main Street building. The project included upgrades to the roof, HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and electrical systems, along with structural repairs and redesigned interior spaces.
The repairs followed Town Meeting's rejection of a larger renovation and expansion proposal in 2022. Town Meeting later approved funding to study the building and design necessary repairs.
After the library leaves, the town-owned Union Street building is planned to become an intergenerational community center housing an Active-Living Senior Center and Recreation Center. The facility is expected to bring health, recreation, social services and community programming under one roof.
