New Meeting Time Chosen for Board of Selectmen

The panel votes to approve a 6:00 p.m. start time.

At its Dec. 14 meeting, the Westborough Board of Selectmen voted to move their meeting time to 6:00 p.m. beginning with the next meeting on Jan. 11, 2011. The board traditionally meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

The decision was not unanimous. Chairman Rod Jane said he felt that the current 7:00 p.m. meeting time "seems to be working pretty well."

"I just think that 7 [o'clock] allows more people to get to the meeting… [the time makes it] easier to watch it on TV," he added.

Selectman Lydia Goldblatt suggested that the normal meeting time be set at 6:00 p.m. except for days when the Selectmen have Executive Session. On those days, she proposed starting the Board of Selectmen meeting after the Executive Session.

"I think it's confusing," Jane commented.

After discussion, the board agreed that the Executive Session could be held after the regularly scheduled Board of Selectmen meeting.

"I think it's worth trying," said Selectman Tim Dodd of the newly suggested meeting time.

The motion passed with a 4 – 1 vote. Jane's was the only vote against the decision. The Board of Selectmen meeting takes place in the lower floor of Westborough Town Hall and is open to the public.
