Public Skating Coming to North Star Arena

Lace up your skates for a fun-filled hour every Saturday.

When was the last time you went ice skating? Maybe it was when you were a child, or maybe your child is taking ice skating lessons and has inspired you to lace back up so you can skate together? Maybe you used to play hockey and miss the feeling of the blades gliding along the ice?

No matter your reason, will give you the perfect opportunity to get back on the ice in an indoor environment close to home.

Beginning Nov. 5, North Star Youth Forum will offer a public skating session every Saturday from noon until 1 p.m. There will be a $5 entrance fee per person and limited skate rentals will be available for $5 per pair. Entrance and rental fees are cash only.

Denise Marco, executive director of North Star Youth Forum and director of Figure Skating of the North Star Figure Skating Club told Westborough Patch, “People can expect a friendly atmosphere during public skating hours. It’s a great opportunity to skate with friends and family in a fun, healthy atmosphere.”

Marco explained that public skating time is for “skaters ages 5 and up.  Current skaters can skate but no jumps, spins, hockey sticks, pucks etc. will be allowed.”

Marco also suggested that skaters wear warm, comfortable clothing with hat and mittens, and suggests helmets as well.

“We will possibly be playing music, but as it is our first time doing it we will play it by ear,” Marco said.

If skaters and spectators find themselves in need of a break, North Star will have the concession stand open, and the bleacher heaters will be operating.

Marco pointed out that North Star has never offered public skating in the past and explained, “We are hoping to add a third sheet of ice and will have additional hours to offer for this much needed activity for the residents of Westborough and surrounding towns. At this time, we have submitted the required paperwork to the Town of Westborough and are waiting on a date that we will go before the Selectmen. We are very excited about this possibility of expanding the North Star Youth Forum," said Marco.
