Student Musicians to Perform at Mechanics and Symphony Halls

The public is invited to the free performances at these prestigious venues.

Because of outstanding performances at a recent music festival, and music groups will be performing at both Mechanics Hall in Worcester this weekend and on April 23 at Symphony Hall in Boston.

"It was quite a showing for Westborough. It’s no small effort for these groups to put their work out for evaluation according to the highest musical standards. The students in all of these groups are to be congratulated,” said David Jost, Fine Arts Coordinator for the Westborough Public Schools.

Over the weekend of April 8 through 10, the student musicians performed at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) 2011 Concert Festival in Wrenthem. A panel of qualified judges presented the Westborough music groups with the following awards:

  • Westborough High School Orchestra – Gold Medal
  • Westborough High School Symphonic Band – Gold Medal
  • Gibbons Middle School Orchestra – Gold Medal
  • Gibbons Middle School Wind Ensemble – Gold Medal
  • Westborough High School Concert Band – Silver Medal
  • Westborough High School Concert Choir – Medal of Merit

Ensembles that earn a gold medal rating are invited to perform in Stars at the Symphony. The public is invited to the free performances and encouraged to arrive 30 minutes prior to the following show times:

  • Gibbons Middle School Orchestra – Mechanics Hall, Worcester – April 17, 11:20 a.m.
  • Gibbons Middle School Wind Ensemble – Mechanics Hall, Worcester – April 17, 12 p.m.
  • Westborough High School Orchestra – Mechanics Hall, Worcester – April 17, 1:30 p.m.
  • Westborough High School Symphonic Band – Symphony Hall, Boston – April 23, 2 p.m.
