Suspicious Fires Under Investigation in Westborough, Officials Ask For Public’s Help

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Authorities are investigating a series of suspicious fires in Westborough and are urging residents to stay alert and report any unusual activity.

The latest incident occurred late Wednesday night at a commercial property on Brigham Street, where a fire damaged mulch, shrubs, and part of a building’s exterior. According to officials, the fire was intentionally set.

Westborough Fire Chief Patrick Purcell emphasized the importance of vigilance, especially overnight.

“First and foremost, we want residents to be alert to any suspicious activity and call 911 immediately for any fire,” Purcell said. “We don’t want to risk an injury or worse in a late-night fire because no one noticed it until it was too late.”

The Brigham Street fire is part of a broader pattern. In recent months, firefighters have responded to another incident at the same location, as well as multiple fires in the Cottage Street area. Officials said all of the fires have occurred outdoors or at unoccupied commercial properties, and no injuries have been reported.

The incidents remain under investigation by the Westborough Fire Department, Westborough Police, and State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Police Chief Todd Minardi is asking anyone with information to come forward.

“We’re also asking anyone with information on these fires or similar incidents to contact the Arson Watch Reward Program,” Minardi said. “You can remain anonymous if you prefer.”

The Arson Watch Reward Program, coordinated by the Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriting Association, offers rewards of up to $5,000 for information that helps solve, detect, or prevent arson-related crimes.
