Town Teens Create Youngest Sprint Triathlon Team
The Westborough athletes worked with mentors to prepare for the competition.
Three Westborough teens joined together to create the youngest relay team at the on Sunday, Aug. 14 at . Joe Lawrence (13), Michael Yeung (13) and Amy Wilichowski (15) created team WiLeY, a name they made using the first letters of their last names.
Michael participated in the quarter mile swim, Joe biked 14 miles and Amy finished up with the 3-mile run.
Kathy Lawrence, Joe’s mother, told Westborough Patch that the kids worked closely with three mentors for the competition. “Mia Yeung, Michael’s mother, trained Joe Lawrence for the biking part of the race,” she said. “He has never participated in anything like this before.”

Mia and Amy’s mother, Sandi Wilichowski, and newcomer Beth Adduci created their own relay team for the triathlon. “Even though the kids and adults had to be on separate teams (because of age), they were one big team,” Kathy added. “It was a fantastic experience.”
