VIDEO: Local Boutiques Celebrate Royal Wedding

Lyn Evans hosted high tea, and She's a Gem held a formal night-time soiree with a mock wedding.

Royal fever swept through two Westborough boutiques on Kate and William's wedding day, Friday, April 29. hosted hightea at noon, and She's A Gem held a nighttime formal gathering with a mock wedding. Both events featured a huge sense of style and an abundance of humor.

At Lyn Evans, the question leading up to the day was, "Didn't you get an Invitation to the Royal Wedding?" At each of its five Massachuetts and two Connecticut locations, the answer was, "Come and celebrate with Lyn Evans instead."

In the Westborough Lyn Evans' store, a antique Union Jack flag was hung in the window to alert by passers that Friday was a special day. Once inside, guests were greeted by elegantly dressed staff. Hats were de riguer.

A formal tea service, scones, strawberries, cake, and - of course - champagne were among the treats offered by the royal watchers. Royal trivia proved to be a source of entertainment.

Not to be outdone by Kate's jewelry, the ladies of Lyn Evans raffled a pair of royal look-alike faux saffire and diamond Jo Jo earrings.

Customer Joanne O'Brien of Westborough told Westborough Patch, "It's uplifting to celebrate the royal wedding."

Store manager Linda Zoltowski added, "I think that Kate wore her dress as well as Princess Grace."

Later in the day, She's a Gem ramped up royal fever with a mock wedding in front of a crowd close to 75. A cacophony of cheers erupted as royal look-alikes ascended the stairs in the space adjacent to this downtown store.

Westborough High School freshman Chris Abislaiman and Kathleen Scannell were William and Kate, and Christy Dorr and red-headed Hunter Blanchard were Kate's sister Pippa and Prince Harry. The impersonations included the military uniform for the groom and full length gown for the bride.

Also dressed in a gown, She's a Gem owner, Carole Judge, a 7th generation resident of Westborough and mom of Chris Abislaiman, said, "All of our customers are gems. We wanted everyone here to feel part of the celebration, and feel a little bit royal."

She's a Gem partnered with DiVine Wine and Spirits of Westborough to feature "royal" wines by Royal Estates, Principeesa, Sweet Bliss and Field of Dreams.

Two faux replicas of Kate's sapphire and diamond engagement ring were raffled. Scarlett Scannell, mom of Kathleen who played Kate, was one of the winners.
