Westborough Paint, New Village Lumber To Be Sold

Doug Curving of Westborough Paint and Decorating said that Koopman Lumber is negotiating to buy his paint store and the former Village Lumber store.

 

UPDATE, June 12, 12 p.m. — In an email from the Koopman Lumber Co to Westborough Patch on June 12, it was stated that Koopman Lumber will fully acquire Westboro Paint and Decorating as well as the former Village Lumber property on Phillips Street.

“Doug Curving, the founder of Westboro Paint, will continue to operate the location as Koopman Paint,” the release said. It further said that Koopman Lumber “expects to fulfill Mr. Curving’s plans to open a full hardware and lumber operation [on Phillips Street] later this year.”

Curving told Westborough Patch that according to the plan, "Koopman will acquire the paint store with (himself) retained to manage the operation."

According to Curving, Koopman will purchase the "Village" hardware store, and follow the general approach in February. He said that Koopman will put their own stamp on the operation.

According to Curving, the renovations on the former Village Lumber have not begun inside. He said, "It's a shell."

The targeted opening date of June 1 has passed. Curving commented, "I'm not putting a date on the opening."

Koopman's has four locations, including North Grafton, Koopman Paint in Milford, Uxbridge and Whitinsville. Its website states that the company was founded in 1939 by the late Peter Koopman. Still operated by the Koopman family, the website also states that the business has a distribution center.

Describing its store, Koopman’s website states, “The stores are meticulously organized and packed with inventory spanning the gamut from paint and hardware supplies to grill accessories, contractor supplies, lumber, home and garden products and more.”

"It's a huge project," Curving said in describing his negotiations with Koopman. Curving mentioned that the “deal isn’t final.” He said that he expects it to be concluded by the end of the month.
