Westborough Artist Takes Top Spot at Art Show
In her first juried art show exhibit, Deb Schradieck was awarded first place for one of her watercolor paintings.
Longtime Westborough resident Deb Schradieck was awarded first place in the annual juried. The exhibit is on display through April 17 at . The award was announced at the show opening on Sunday, March 13.
“I entered five pieces and one of them took first prize,” Schradieck told Westborough Patch. The winning piece is a watercolor called East Gloucester Morning. “I painted it in the studio from a photo I took last summer,” she said.
Schradieck, a real estate agent with Remax Prestige in Northborough, recently joined the Artist Guild of Shrewsbury. She has been studying art throughout her life, earning a degree in fine arts and illustration from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Known for her highly detailed pen and ink home portraits, she said she started doing watercolors last year. Currently, she is taking a Color and Light class under the direction of Bill Griffiths at the Worcester Art Museum.

Linda Sinacola, member of the Rockport Art and North Shore Art Association and owner of The Brick Block Gallery in Sutton, judged the entries over the weekend. In addition to Schradieck’s top honors, Joseph Rice was awarded second place for an acrylic painting called Savana Balcony and Aili Paal Singer was awarded third place for her mixed media painting The Flower Seller.
Among the attractions at the exhibit is work by Bobby Duffy, a Blackstone Valley plein air painter. Plein air painters are those who do their work outdoors.
