Westborough Fire Chief Search Committee Begins Interviews
The town's search for its next fire chief moved into the interview stage this week.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough’s search for its next fire chief moved into the interview stage this week.
The Fire Chief Search Committee met Tuesday morning at Town Hall to finalize candidate interview questions and a written exercise, then entered executive session to interview candidates for the fire chief position, according to a town manager report and department update shared Wednesday.
The committee first met July 9 to review the search process, establish an interview timeline and discuss committee responsibilities, according to the town update.

Westborough formed the search committee after Fire Chief Patrick Purcell announced plans to retire this summer. Purcell’s retirement is effective Aug. 9.
In June, the town sought three residents and/or business representatives, preferably with experience or familiarity with fire service operations, to serve on the committee.

Westborough’s Town Charter says the Select Board appoints the fire chief for an indefinite term and the appointment process for key personnel must include a search committee, except in the case of reappointments.
