Westborough Junior Girl Scouts Promote Tree Conservation to Earn Bronze Award

Westborough’s 5th-grade Junior Girl Scout Troop 65192 recently earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award — the highest honor available to Junior Girl Scouts — by creating a free, publicly accessible educational website dedicated to tree conservation.

The Bronze Award requires Girl Scouts to team up with their troop to identify a community need and develop a sustainable solution. The girls from Troop 65192, Abby P., Orianna S., Valentina F.J., Hiba U., Olivia N., and Skylar T. executed a Take Action Project focused on the importance of trees in their community and beyond.

For their project, the girls conducted thorough research on tree conservation, covering topics including the role of trees in supporting wildlife and human health, the causes and global impact of deforestation, and practical ways people can help protect trees. They organized their findings into a Google Slides presentation and then translated that content into a public-facing educational website built using Google Sites. The site features interactive fact sections and downloadable activity worksheets and puzzles designed for younger children. Finally, the troop shared their work at a community presentation attended by family, friends, and local community members.

Throughout the project, the girls connected with several community members to deepen their understanding of local conservation efforts, including the Westborough Town Tree Warden.
