Westborough Leaves Pop Warner Football Program

The American Youth Football League replaces Pop Warner football in Westborough.

After decades playing as “The Red Devils” in the Pop Warner Youth Football League, the Westborough Youth Football organization announced that it will move from Pop Warner to the American Youth Football League (AYF) of Central Massachusetts. According to program organizers, the move allows Westborough to play teams more local and closer in size to Westborough.

The new league aligns itself with the high school program, and the youth teams will now play many of the same surrounding towns as the (WHS) Rangers.

Previously, the teams were weight based. Under the AYF league rules, teams are grade based. Going forward, players will participate on teams with players of similar age who are in the same grade.

The league board of directors made these changes to promote instructional, healthy and safe competition; to align itself with the football program; and to build a sustainable youth football program in Westborough.

In addition, players will now sport the Westborough “Rangers” name.

Recruitment and information clinics for parents and players will be announced soon and held throughout the next few months.

In preparing for this move, the league will be purchasing new equipment and uniforms for the players. The funding for this is made possible by player fundraising.

Registration is now open for the new league. Fore more information, visit www.westboroughyouthfootball.com.
