Westborough Man Stabbed Wife Before Fatal Shooting: Police

Westborough police said Sgt. Jonathan Kalagher shot a knife-wielding man after commanding him to drop the weapon.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — The man who was shot and killed by a Westborough police officer on Friday stabbed his wife several times before police arrived, according to District Attorney Joseph Early. The man's identity has not been released. His wife was hospitalized in stable condition with several stab wounds.

Westborough police said the man stabbed his wife several times in their Windsor Ridge Apartments unit and followed her when she ran off to call for help at a neighbor's apartment, according to officials. The neighbors called police as the man continued to attack his wife, the DA's office said.

Westborough police Sgt. Jonathan Kalagher told the man to drop the knife several times and when he refused, Kalagher shot him, according to the DA's office. Kalagher was not injured but taken to the hospital according to department policy. He was placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy.
