Westborough Teen Stars in Boston Production

Boston Children's Theatre (BCT) presents "Spring Awakening," featuring Carly Grayson.

Westborough resident Carly Grayson, 19, is starring in Boston Children’s Theatre’s production of Spring Awakening. She will be playing ‘Wendla,’ the role made famous by Lea Michele of the FOX television series Glee.

“We are honored to be one of the first children’s theaters in the country to produce this ground breaking musical,” said Toby Schine, executive producer and director of the show.

Spring Awakening is the winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It features a rock score with music written by Duncan Sheik. The plot is set in late 19th century Germany, following a group of teens as they navigate and explore the exhilarating journey from adolescence to adulthood. The production contains mature subject matter and adult content. BCT recommends parental discretion.

The production features the Boston Children’s Theatre Summer Studio 4 students who range in age from 14 to 19 and represent 25 local communities and Germany.

The show will be staged at The Governor’s Academy, 1 Elm St., Byfield. The three public performances include: Thursday, Aug. 4 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 6 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.
