Westborough Wellness Club Expansion Reaches Foundation Stage

The 26,000-square-foot fitness center is expected to include expanded exercise areas, a larger basketball court and new parking spots.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A major expansion of a local health and wellness club is taking shape.

The Westboro Tennis and Swim Club has plans to build a new 26,000-square-foot fitness center near the club’s existing campus on Chauncy Street, with construction targeted for completion in early 2027. The club shared photos of the building’s foundation in a social media update Thursday.

The new building is under construction in the field west of the Kids Club parking lot, directly across from the Kids Club entrance, according to the club’s project page.

Plans at the new club call for a strength and conditioning area more than twice the size of the club’s current space, with free weights, exercise machines, turf and new equipment. The project also includes a basketball court about 30 percent larger than the current court and a group exercise studio nearly twice as large.

A 4,000-square-foot mezzanine will primarily hold cardio equipment, providing nearly three times the club’s existing cardio space. A separate studio beneath the mezzanine will be used for personal training and functional fitness programs.

The project also includes approximately 130 new parking spaces, according to the club.

Westborough approved the project through a full site plan review under application 25-04188, according to the town’s online permitting system.

Plans reviewed by the Planning Board included one driveway on Oak Street, stormwater improvements and a sidewalk connection between the new building and the club’s existing property at 35 Chauncy St., according to March 17 meeting minutes.

The club has not announced an official opening date but said it is aiming for early 2027.
