The fire department is warning residents of a lethal opiate batch in the Lowell area.

LOWELL, MA – First responders in Lowell have responded to four fatal opiate overdoses in 12 hours, according to the fire department. Fire officials believe the overdoses were caused by a mix of heroin/fentanyl and cocaine/fentanyl.
"There appears to be a lethal batch of opiates in the Greater Lowell area," Lowell Fire Chief Jeffrey Winward said in a statement.
Officials urge residents not to use opiates but warn those struggling with substance abuse issues to be vigilant in the coming days. Those who use are asked not to do so alone, and residents are advised to check in on their loved ones.
