WA Softball Advances Defeating Chelmsford 5-2

The Lady Grey Ghost softball team was victorious over Chelmsford 5-2 in the heat on Thursday. The lions had 12 hits to Westford's 6, but the nearly perfect defense of WA kept Chelmsford from scoring until the top of the seventh inning.  Chelmsford threatened early by loading the bases in the first, but could not score a run. The Ghosts wasted no time in the first inning. With two outs, Emily Chateauneuf was hit by a pitch and went to first. Sage Riddick singled, moving Chateaumeuf to second. Alexa Sullivan came to the plate and hit a double, which scored the first run of the game. Riddick then scored on a passed ball. Megan Scannell drew a walk. With two on base, Christie Raymond hit a double to center field, scoring Sullivan and Scannell. When the dust settled after the first inning, WA held a 4-0 lead. Rachel Desrochers, Riddick, and Sullivan played a strong defense in the infield, with Scannell impeccable at first base. The outfield was strong with a spectacular catch by Morgan Ross in left and a strong centerfield showing by Chateuneuf.  WA scored again in the fourth when Ross singled and then advamced around to third on a steal and passed ball. Amy Livorsi then hit a sacrifice bunt to score Ross. The Lions tried to rally in the seventh inning, scoring two runs with two outs. The game ended with a routine ground ball to shortstop Desrochers who fired it to Scannell to end the game. Christie Raymond pitched a complete game, giving up two earned runs, striking out two and not walking a batter. The Ghosts will advance tp face Framingham on their home field on Saturday at 4pm.
