This week Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito visited colleges and universities across Massachusetts to talk about their plan to reduce the cost of higher education and expand opportunity for students. The plan calls for connecting Massachusetts' community colleges and state universities to the evolving job market. Initiatives include more online learning, three-year degrees, and expanding co-op programs.
"We need to make higher education more affordable, and do a better job of connecting schools to employers, so that all of our high school graduates can have a real chance at a bright future right here in Massachusetts," said Charlie Baker. "Unless we act now to deepen the connections between the public education system and the demands of the workplace, we will continue to see jobs migrate to other states and countries, along with employment and career opportunities for our young people."
“Charlie and I met with students, educators and administrators at schools from Western Massachusetts to the North Shore,” said Karyn. “The story is the same everywhere — there are great programs and qualified students, but we need to make sure that higher education is relevant and accessible.”
