Lost Westford Hiker Saved On White Mountains: ICYMI

New Hampshire Fish and Game officers rescued Robie Gould, of Westford, in the White Mountains Monday.

PEMIGEWASSET WILDERNESS, NH — A Westford hiker was rescued from the White Mountains Monday after spending a night on a secluded trail with no tent in frigid, wet conditions. Robie Gould, 58, was rescued from the Pemigewasset Wilderness area and not seriously hurt.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials said Gould departed from the Lincoln Woods trail parking area Sunday at about 5 a.m. and wasn't able to use his cell phone to call for help when he got lost because he couldn't get a signal.

"Gould was an experienced hiker and carried all the essential equipment for staying overnight in a winter environment," Fish and Game said in a statement. "He was able to put on dry cloths and additional layers to stay warm. In addition he covered up in a poncho and had a large commercial trash bag that he was able to get into to stay protected from the environment.
