Lowell Boy Killed In Fire: Community Supports Family

Hunter Knox, 3, of Lowell, died in a fire Friday.

LOWELL, MA — The Lowell community has come together to support a family after a 3-year-old boy was killed in a fire last week. Hunter Knox died Friday after a fire broke out at his Parker Street residence. Two others were hurt.

As investigators try to determine the cause of the fire, a fundraiser has raised more than $30,000 for Hunter's family.

"I can't begin to say how much it means to me and my family," Hunter's father, Ryan, said in a statement on the Knox Family Assistance Fund.

The three-alarm fire tore through an apartment complex. Firefighters encountered heavy flames but were able to reach the boy in a back bedroom, officials said. He was transported to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two other apartment residents and a firefighter were also hurt but expected to be OK, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
