Shelter Thanks Supporters with Kitten Cuddlebombs

Local shelter offers to bring kittens to your home for some one-on-one cuddle time this holiday season

For animal rescue organizations like Westford-based Forgotten Angels, funding for essential medical care, food, and foster home support is a year-round challenge. A unique offering this holiday season hopes to abate that need while spreading the kind of cheer that only snuggly, adorable kittens can.

Drop a “Kitten Cuddlebomb” on your children, friend or family member and receive a home visit from a group of kittens escorted by a shelter volunteer. Cuddlebombs consist of either two kittens for a 20-minute snuggle session over the holiday break or four kittens for a 30-minute visit on Christmas Eve. Corporate donors can request a three-hour visit from six kittens and three volunteers for an afternoon of cubicle-to-cubicle cuddles.

“Forgotten Angels takes cats out of homelessness and provides them with the veterinary care they need to be moved into their forever home including altering, vaccination, treatment for parasites, testing, and microchipping,” says president and founder Julie Porter-Brooks. “Many cats require minor additional care to bring them to a state of health prior to adoption. With the rising cost of veterinary care and a budget that has not supported an increase since 2008, we struggle daily with finding the financial resources needed to continue our mission.”

Meet one-year-old Mellie who was homeless and was the victim of a hit-and-run car accident when she came to Forgotten Angels. She was suffering from an internal infection and had an injury to her back leg that required multiple surgeries to save.

“These are the pets we serve,” says Julie, “those that may be suffering from injuries or poor living conditions, or may have been destroyed at another shelter due to lack of space or funding. We are a no-kill shelter. When we do not have the resources to best serve the cats in our care, the money often comes out of my own pocket. I cannot let finances affect the animals’ quality of life, though we struggle every day to stretch a dollar farther than it can possibly go.”

After a four-month recovery at her foster home, Mellie found her forever family in September and continues to thrive thanks to the life-saving veterinary care she received from Forgotten Angels.
