Tyngsboro Man Arrested For Domestic Assault, Threats To Kill

The 22-year-old allegedly showed up at the home multiple times and sent texts threatening to kill the man and his family.

TYNGSBORO, MA – A Tyngsborough man faces multiple charges stemming from a series of domestic incidents during which he allegedly threatened to kill his father and family, officials said. Jean Yates, 22, was arraigned Monday on charges of assault and battery on a household or family member, threatening to commit a crime, larceny under $1,200 and resisting arrest.

At around 2:06 p.m. on June 10, Tyngsborough police responded to a report of a man who was at a Bowers Street home without permission and threatening to use a gun, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office.

Yates fled, and police were called to the home again around 3:15 p.m. for a reported domestic assault. Officers were told Yates had once again fled the scene, according to the DA. Yates allegedly sent multiple text messages threatening to kill the victim and his family and took keys to another property the victim owned in Lowell.

Police responded to the Bowers Avenue home a third time later that night after Yates allegedly climbed a ladder and entered through a window. He was allegedly under the influence of an unknown substance, and police surrounded the home believing him to be a danger to those inside, the DA's office said.

Yates exited the home and spoke to police before attempting to flee on foot, according to the DA. He was found near a shed on the property.

Police told the Lowell Sun the victim was Yates' father.

A judge set Yates' bail at $500 Monday and ordered him to stay away from and have no contact with his father, to abide by a restraining order, to take no drugs or alcohol and be subject to random screens and to undergo a mental health evaluation and cooperate with any follow-up care.

He is scheduled to appear in court again June 28.
