Westford Academy Teachers Give History New Interactive Life

The two educators have been developing ways to help kids in their shared classroom get the most out of their lessons.

Taking a “Night at the Museum” approach to learning, two Westford Academy educators are finding new ways to bring history to life for students.

History teachers Stephen Scully and Chris Gorham have been developing a number of ways for students to experience history, rather than simply read and talk about it, the Westford Eagle reported. This is reflected in both their lessons and the historical oddities and antiques that decorate their shared classroom.

Activities such as having the students reenact trench warfare in actual trenches have become common under their guidance, according to the Westford Eagle. This activity becomes particularly immersive with the use of things such as fog machines and sound effects.

The two have also rid students of the need to Google everything by compiling an extensive in-class library of historical texts. They are also constantly looking for ways to keep things evolving and fresh, as reported by the Westford Eagle.
