WESTON — Does PE still make sense when you're already dancing, skating, or swimming for hours a day? Weston students want the school to consider that question, reports TownBrief Weston.
Last week, the Student Advisory Committee asked the School Committee to expand the physical education exemption, the outlet reports. That currently applies only to athletes competing in Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association-sanctioned sports.
Students say dancers, figure skaters and others with demanding physical activities outside school can train just as hard as varsity athletes — yet still have to take PE.
No decision was made. The committee plans to revisit the issue, potentially in December, after hearing from high school administrators and the teaching and learning department. Read more at TownBrief Weston.
