The Benefits of Eating Local

Buying your produce from Land's Sake Farm is better for your health and the community as well.

The farm is the heart of all Land’s Sake programs, and their produce is fresh, seasonal, and local. But what exactly are the benefits of eating locally grown produce? First of all, local produce is more flavorful and has higher nutritional value because it is grown using organic and natural methods. This also means that the food supply is safer because less chemicals are used and the produce is not being processed or shipped across the country as supermarket produce often is. Finally, locally grown produce is beneficial to both the environment and the local economy.

Buying your produce at Land’s Sake is better for your health, and better for the community as well. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares are now on sale, allowing you to pick up fresh produce weekly throughout the summer and fall. Green Dollars are also on sale, and are prepaid Farmstand credit valid for produce and other local delicacies sold at the Farmstand, which opens on June 2. When visiting the Farmstand or CSA tent this summer, you will be purchasing your produce directly from the people who grew it and on the land where it was grown, giving you the opportunity to learn more about exactly where your food comes from.
