Friends and Rivals brings to life a circle of 17th-century European composers living in or strongly influenced by the booming baroque musical city of Venice. This program discovers their influences and relationships through their music, especially highlighting the fond long-distance friendship between George Frideric Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann, and the competitive rivalry between Handel and Nicola Porpora.Featuring Renée Hemsing, Susanna Ogata, violins; Guy Fishman, cello; Ian Watson, harpsichord.
Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can, with a suggested donation of $25/person.

There has been a revolution in philately recently, as stamp collecting has moved from our dining room tables into the digital age. A new generation of stamp collecting “influencers” has gone online to create content for our hobby.On Monday, May 25, the Spellman Museum will be hosting an evening panel discussion with some of the top creators in this space, including museum curator Ken Flowers of “Ken’s Stamp Collection” and “That Stamp Guy”, Ryan Joneson. Ken and his guests will discuss why they create content, give tips to potential new creators and answer live questions from some of their viewers.This event is free with admission and begins at 6:30PM. It is part of the museum's participation in the Boston 2026 World Stamp Expo; shuttle service from the Expo to the museum is available.

Celebrate 10 Years of Dance with FJW Dance Studio’s Anniversary Showcase

On Sunday, May 31st at 8:30 AM, runners and walkers will gather at Prospect Hill Park (314 Totten Pond Road, Waltham, MA) for the Mission MetroWest Road Race, a challenging and scenic 5K fundraiser benefiting the Community Day Center of Waltham (CDCW), the only drop-in day shelter serving adults experiencing homelessness in the MetroWest region.
The certified course combines trail and road terrain entirely within the park, featuring steep hills, wooded paths, and sweeping views of the Boston skyline.
The race also serves as the culmination of “Mission MetroWest: A Mile a Day in May,” a month-long movement and fundraising challenge supporting the CDCW’s work.
This year’s event feels especially meaningful because former CDCW guest Judy — alongside her senior dog, Callie-Jane — will be waiting at the finish line. After unexpectedly losing her housing, Judy stayed in the CDCW’s Night Program while staff helped her secure a new apartment. Now stably housed, she has raised nearly $1,000 to give back to the very program that supported her during a difficult chapter in her life.
“When people run this race, they are directly supporting our guests,” said Executive Director Chloe-Rose Crouch. “Judy’s story is a reminder of why this work matters.”&nbsp;Register at the link below!

Golden Ball Tavern Museum

Step inside history at the Golden Ball Tavern Museum—a remarkable home built in 1768 where the drama of the American Revolution once unfolded. Built by Isaac Jones, a prominent citizen who famously shifted from Loyalist to Patriot, the Tavern became an unlikely hub of intrigue. In 1774 it was the scene of a violent ransacking known as the ‘Weston Tea Party’. During the winter of 1775, it served as a base for British spies, playing a role in the events that led to the march on Lexington and Concord. These walls have witnessed divided loyalties, secret plans, and a nation on the brink of independence. The tavern, found at “the sign of the Golden Ball,” welcomed travelers from 1770 to 1793. For the 200 years, six generations of the Jones family carefully preserved the home and its stories—creating a rare, unbroken link to the past. Today, the Golden Ball Tavern Museum invites visitors to experience early American life up close. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum houses hundreds of original artifacts and offers engaging programs, lectures, and events that bring history vividly to life for all ages. Open year-round from February through December, the museum welcomes visitors every Thursday (10 a.m.–4 p.m.) and on the second Sunday of each month (1–4 p.m.). The museum has a special, week-long holiday event in December which is open to the public each day. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just curious about the past, there’s something here for everyone. Our largest fundraiser of the year - the Golden Ball Tavern Museum's Barn Sale - will celebrate its 59th year on September 26th, 2026. Join us from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You’ll find gorgeous items donated by local and wider community members—many who are moving, downsizing, or just clearing space.
