Weston Singers Prepare for Winter Concert

A number of Weston residents are among the more than 60 singers preparing for Winter Melody, the Community Chorus winter concert, to be performed on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m at Weston High School. The music for the chorus concert includes such diverse seasonal selections as Little Lamb, selections from Gloria by Vivaldi, the Gospel selection Great God A’Mighty, a madrigal, Irving Berlin’s Blue Skies, Ave Maria and more.
 
Based in Weston, the chorus draws its members from 17 Boston-area communities including Brookline, West Roxbury, Needham, Framingham, Wayland and Weston, and sing a wide variety of musical genres under the direction of Dr. Thérèse Provenzano, who established the group in 1997. The group’s piano accompanist, Dr. Jenny Chou, has arranged one of the pieces the group will be singing.

One Weston chorus member, Patty Lawrence, described her experience in the chorus as “a lot of fun” and credited Provenzano with “energizing and motivating us to not only sing but to progress in our singing skills.”

“I love the experience as it allows me to sing in a group again after not having sung since college. Many of us join the Community Chorus as we love to sing yet don't want the stresses of auditioning for a chorus,” said Lawrence, who was among the first to join the chorus with Provenzano, whom she called  “a most amazing director. She works us hard but we have a lot of fun while we are rehearsing. The group is a very inclusive group with many levels of singers, which is nice, but it takes Thérèse's skills to enable us to come together as a group to produce a quality concert.”
