Golden Ball Tavern Museum

Step inside history at the Golden Ball Tavern Museum—a remarkable home built in 1768 where the drama of the American Revolution once unfolded. Built by Isaac Jones, a prominent citizen who famously shifted from Loyalist to Patriot, the Tavern became an unlikely hub of intrigue. In 1774 it was the scene of a violent ransacking known as the ‘Weston Tea Party’. During the winter of 1775, it served as a base for British spies, playing a role in the events that led to the march on Lexington and Concord. These walls have witnessed divided loyalties, secret plans, and a nation on the brink of independence. The tavern, found at “the sign of the Golden Ball,” welcomed travelers from 1770 to 1793. For the 200 years, six generations of the Jones family carefully preserved the home and its stories—creating a rare, unbroken link to the past. Today, the Golden Ball Tavern Museum invites visitors to experience early American life up close. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum houses hundreds of original artifacts and offers engaging programs, lectures, and events that bring history vividly to life for all ages. Open year-round from February through December, the museum welcomes visitors every Thursday (10 a.m.–4 p.m.) and on the second Sunday of each month (1–4 p.m.). The museum has a special, week-long holiday event in December which is open to the public each day. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just curious about the past, there’s something here for everyone. Our largest fundraiser of the year - the Golden Ball Tavern Museum's Barn Sale - will celebrate its 59th year on September 26th, 2026. Join us from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You’ll find gorgeous items donated by local and wider community members—many who are moving, downsizing, or just clearing space. Features: Sportsmanship: Our camp culture prizes sportsmanship, highlighted by our daily sportsperson awards and weekly CSS Cup. Skill Development: Ball control, possession, finishing, team tactical training, and multi-themed camps. Campers receive evaluations weekly, and parents receive daily photos and updates of training. Home Grown: We are run by established, credentialed local teachers and coaches. Many CSS campers are accepted into our CIT program and become coaches. Please join us at The Rivers School in Weston for a fun-filled sports day! We have partnered with The Rivers School and student Jake Goldberg, who has selected Athletes 4 Autism as the charity of his choice for his RISE Day project.  The RISE program is a sophomore-wide community service project, in which several students lead their fellow classmates in selected charitable initatives. The RISE program culminates in a day in the spring, in which each initiative showcases its purpose and participates with the Rivers' community to aid their charity. Students from The Rivers School, alongside a few athlete volunteers from Boston University, will run skills drills and games in both basketball and soccer. Game teams will be made up of both participants and our "mentor" volunteers. Participants can select to play one sport for the day or rotate between both sports. Keeping true to our philsophy, this event is open to both children with and without autism. We encourage families to come out to The Rivers School to enjoy a relaxing day and to experience firsthand how our programming works!
