Excitement Drawing for Boston Comic Book Convention ”Boston Comic Con” Just Announced: Billy West Will Be At the Show!

Boston (July 24, 2013) –As the Boston Comic Convention weekend nears, thousands are forecasted to attend the two-day event at The Seaport World Trade Center on Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 4th. Voice actor and comedian Billy West joins a legion of celebrities who will be at this year’s Boston Comic Con including Laurie Holden of “The Walking Dead,” Kristen Bauer of “True Blood,” and actors Aidan Turner and Dean O’Gorman of “The Hobbit.”
West, who got his start in Boston, will be available for meet and greets with his hometown fans throughout the Comic Con Weekend. He was raised in Roslindale, Massachusetts and launched his career in the early 1980s performing daily comedic routines on Boston's WBCN’s The Big Mattress Show. These days, West is best known for being involved with Nickelodeon shows Doug and Ren & Stimpy, voices in the film Space Jam with Michael Jordan and the portrayal of Philip J. Fry, Dr. Zoidberg, Professor Farnsworth and Zapp Branigan among others on the cartoon Futurama and as the iconic “Red M&M.”

“We are so fortunate that Billy West can join us at this year’s convention,” said Kanieff. “West is the biggest voice over actor in animation today and he will definitely bring a unique aspect to the convention.”

Autographs with Billy West will be captured by new video recording technology for authenticity by IMAGE meet And Greet Events (www.IMAGEMeetandGreet.com) with personalization in the animation character’s voice. The video is immediately emailed to the fan as proof, for bragging rights and to share on social networks as a unique souvenir of Boston Comic Con.
Also, in anticipation for Boston Comic Con, Dick’s Last Resort, and Newbury Comics are teaming up for the first pre-convention Boston Comic Con Costume Contest, being held at Faneuil Hall Marketplace on Wednesday July 31st from 11:45a.m.- 1:00p.m.
“The pre-event costume contest is a great opportunity to raise awareness and get people excited about the convention,” said Nick Kanieff, Co-Founder of the Boston Comic Convention. “We are thrilled to have another opportunity for people from the Boston-area to be involved in Boston Comic Con and are looking forward to seeing some great costumes in the parade at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.”
Over the two-day convention, Boston Comic Con will feature The Artist Alley with over 200 well-known and local guest comic book creators and comic book merchants from across the Northeast, a two-day film festival, a costume contest hosted by ‘Cosplay ‘ favorite, Yaya Han and a two-day Magic The Gathering tournament. Additionally, on Saturday night from 5pm to 7pm, Boston Comic Con will feature a Comic Book Art Auction which will donate a portion of its proceeds to The Boston One Fund, in support of Boston Marathon victims and The Mike Wieringo Scholarship for aspiring comic book artists studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Tickets for Boston Comic Con are available online and at the door. Saturday’s events run from 10 AM – 7 PM, and Sunday will be 10 AM – 6 PM. Tickets for either Saturday or Sunday’s events are $25, and a weekend pass, valid for both days, is $40.
