FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF WESTON LAUNCHES YOUTH ART PROGRAM
Weston, Massachusetts – The First Baptist Church of Weston (FBCW) has enlisted the Boston arts community to bring creative change to local youth. The four-part Youth Art Workshops aim to promote healthy lifestyle choices, develop leadership skills and serve the spiritual needs of youth in Weston and surrounding towns. All are welcome to join as the creativity commences – free of charge – on Veteran’s Day Weekend.
Taking place from November 2013 to April 2014, the Youth Art Workshops will engage children ages 9-14 in art-making and art appreciation programs, including performance art, Gospel choir, creative writing and more. The first of the four workshops will focus on Performance Art, and will take place on Sunday, November 10 and Monday, November 11 in Weston.

The 2-day Art Performance Workshop will address the ever-present questions and passions of youth. Led by Kadahj Benneitt, a theater instructor (and alum) of the acclaimed Boston Arts Academy, the two days of creative writing, ensemble improv and songwriting will engage kids in creative play to build community and explore healthy lifestyle choices. Mr. Bennett is a graduate of Hamilton College, and his recent performance in the Company One debut, “How We Got On,” opened at the Boston Center for the Arts to rave reviews. Mr. Bennett also opened for Bon Jovi last December, as the front-man for the hip-hop group The Downbeat Keys. He is the founder of Phresh.0, and is a member of the artist collective, NPLAP.
“We are thrilled to bring this type of opportunity to the youth of Weston and our neighboring towns. We wanted to do something different, we wanted to have a positive impact, and we wanted to look beyond our walls to make that possible,” commented FBCW Pastor, Frank Armstrong. “Our mission is to promote healthy lifestyle choices in our youth – and we are confident that the Youth Art Workshops will do just that, while also building community among kids from different backgrounds, towns and faiths.”

FBCW expects to serve more than 50 children from Weston, Waltham and surrounding areas, and kids from any community and any faith are encouraged to participate.
