Great Big Innings for Softball

Weston powers past Mount St. Joseph in season opener.

Scoring runs in bunches in the first three innings, the host Weston softball team opened the season with a stunning 18-11 win over non-league foe Mount St. Joseph Academy yesterday.

The Wildcats scored four runs in the first, and six each in the second and third frames, before tacking on two more in the fifth.

Sophomore pitcher Ariana Vasquez helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4, including a solo home run to left center that soared over Weston’s new fence to lead off the third inning.
