Hit Parade Propels ‘Cats to Second Straight Win

Weston baseball takes care of Austin Prep, 10-1.

Make it two in a row for the high-flying Weston High baseball team. The Wildcats (2-0) continued to bat the ball around, this time to the tune of 10-1 victory over non-league host Austin Preparatory School on Saturday.

“We are very pleased with where we are at this point in the year,” Weston head coach Jon Berry said. “But the kids know we still have areas to improve, and we will be back at work [today] trying to get better.”

Weston broke a 1-1 game in the fifth inning when senior Vinny Nardone walked with the bases loaded. The Marroon and White then struck for eight more runs in the sixth. The ‘Cats rallied with six hits and took advantage of two walks, two errors, and two hit batsmen.

Nardone finished the day 1-for-2 with three RBIs, while junior Gage Hartman went 2-for-4, driving in two runs. Seniors Nick Neu and Robert Charpie also had two hits in four tries. Neu drove in a run, and Charpie ripped a double.

Charpie also proved strong on the mound again, earning his second victory of the campaign. The right-hander combined with sophomore James Goulart for the win, as the duo scattered only five hits between them.

“Robert really competed on the mound today and pitched very well,” Berry said. “[Then] James came in and threw strikes and the defense was solid behind both of them.”

Weston will visit Dual County League foe Waltham on Wednesday.
