How to Make Your House More Modern

One of the latest and most popular trends in decorating houses are giving them a modern look. When trying to sell, a modern-looking home is important. Today, it can separate a $4 million home from a $2 million home. However, if you’re not a professional or interior decorator, achieving this modern look might be difficult. We’ve compiled some tips to help you make your home look modern and polished.
The first tip we recommend is to start with your kitchen. It is often the most-used room in a house, making it an important room to update. Start by replacing cabinets. For a modern look, replace them with dark-colored or white cabinets. If you don’t want to replace the cabinets as a whole, you could also try painting them. Your local home-improvement store will probably sell paint made specifically for cabinets. This won’t take very long, and will make a huge difference in the appearance of your kitchen. Another tip for updating your kitchen is to install a new backsplash. Backsplash is one of the most visible parts of your kitchen. A new backsplash will leave your kitchen looking clean and lavish. Next, replace old appliances with newer ones to give the room a more modern feel. Finally, consider replacing counter tops with new ones made of marble, quartz, or granite to give the room a slick, exquisite feel.
As for the rest of your house, start with a fresh coat of modern-colored paint in each room. Fresh paint jobs can make an old room look good as new. If you are looking for a modern feel, colors to consider choosing from include olive greens, light greys, whites, blues, soft purples, and bold reds. Another trend is adding just a splash of color here and there. For example, you could also consider painting walls neutral colors and add splashes of bold colors elsewhere in the room, like on an accent wall, pillows on couch furniture, or a decorative rug. If the rooms in your house have crown molding, baseboards, and wainscoting, definitely give those a fresh coat of paint, as well, to finish the job! If the rooms in your house don’t have crown molding or wainscoting, consider adding them! This will give the house a well-built, crisp look. Crown molding can be added to any room, and wainscoting can be added to living or family rooms, bathrooms, stairs, kitchens, and more. Wainscoting comes in a variety of patterns and styles, so you can choose the one that you think is best for your house.

Next, move furniture around, or, if you haven’t bought furniture in a while, consider buying new furniture. Try not to have too much furniture in your rooms. Give the rooms more space or more open areas. This will give them a “new” feel.
If you’re wondering what you can do in your bathroom, think “water” and the areas surrounding where water is distributed. There is nothing worse than a dirty bathing area, so the first tip we have for your bathroom is to replace the showerhead. For example, one of the latest trends in modern home decorating is replacing old shower heads with rainfall shower heads. This gentle, flowing pressure is quite relaxing. Next, consider replacing sinks in your bathrooms. If you’re a more traditional home decorator, replace whatever style sink you have with a new one. If you’d really like to shoot for a modern look, consider a rectangular, ceramic, self-rimmed sink or a ceramic, stone, or glass, circular vessel sink. Pair the vessel sink with a single hole faucet for an especially modern feel.
