New Smoke Alarm Requirements in Weston
The new set of regulations applies to residences built before 1975 that have not been significantly altered.

WESTON, MA – A new set of smoke alarm regulations went into effect in Weston at the beginning of the month.
The requirements apply to one- and two-family homes built before January 1975 that have not been substantially altered. If built or altered after that date, the requirements are established by the state building code.
Working alarms installed before Dec. 1 that meet requirements can be used until they are 10 years old or have passed the manufacturer's recommended expiration date.
