Golden Ball Tavern Museum

Step inside history at the Golden Ball Tavern Museum—a remarkable home built in 1768 where the drama of the American Revolution once unfolded. Built by Isaac Jones, a prominent citizen who famously shifted from Loyalist to Patriot, the Tavern became an unlikely hub of intrigue. In 1774 it was the scene of a violent ransacking known as the ‘Weston Tea Party’. During the winter of 1775, it served as a base for British spies, playing a role in the events that led to the march on Lexington and Concord. These walls have witnessed divided loyalties, secret plans, and a nation on the brink of independence. The tavern, found at “the sign of the Golden Ball,” welcomed travelers from 1770 to 1793. For the 200 years, six generations of the Jones family carefully preserved the home and its stories—creating a rare, unbroken link to the past. Today, the Golden Ball Tavern Museum invites visitors to experience early American life up close. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum houses hundreds of original artifacts and offers engaging programs, lectures, and events that bring history vividly to life for all ages. Open year-round from February through December, the museum welcomes visitors every Thursday (10 a.m.–4 p.m.) and on the second Sunday of each month (1–4 p.m.). The museum has a special, week-long holiday event in December which is open to the public each day. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just curious about the past, there’s something here for everyone. Our largest fundraiser of the year - the Golden Ball Tavern Museum's Barn Sale - will celebrate its 59th year on September 26th, 2026. Join us from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You’ll find gorgeous items donated by local and wider community members—many who are moving, downsizing, or just clearing space. The train was coming from Framingham into South Station. Anyone on train 516 was bussed from Wellesley Farms to Boston, making all stops. The commuter rail experienced long delays. By 10:45 a.m., the MBTA reported that the line was running about 30-40 minutes behind. A MBTA spokesperson <a href="http://www.wcvb.com/news/pedestrian-killed-by-commuter-rail-train-in-newton/32790932?absolute=true&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">confirmed to WCVB-TV</a> that the victim was a man in his 50s who had been trespassing on the tracks.Visit Patch for any updates.
