Recognizing those who have served our country

I attended the ceremonies this morning at Town Hall, honoring the men and women of Weston who have served in our armed forces.  In general I have a distaste for politicians getting involved with something that is about veterans and not politics but when the organizers asked me to say a few words, a new perspective dawned on me.  Elected officials, albeit not at the local level, are the ones who make the decisions to send members of the military into harms way.  It is appropriate for elected officials then to acknowledge and honor those who have served and sacrificed on our behalf.  I was glad to play a part, in my small way, in honoring these men and women of our armed forces.

So, as Chair of your board of Selectmen, I want thank all of the past, present, and future veterans of Weston for their part in keeping us safe and our country strong.  Your town and its residents are indebted to you, and appreciate what you have done.  Thank you.
