Regis College Annual Physical Activity and Nutrition Fair for Children

Regis College Annual Physical Activity and Nutrition Fair for Children on November 20

Ever wish you could get your child to be more active? Looking for inspiration for healthy kid-friendly snacks?

On Thursday, November 20, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., nutrition and sport management students at Regis College will address these concerns. This Physical Activity and Nutrition Fair for Children is free and open to the public.

“Physical activity is crucial to maintaining a healthy weight,” said Catherine Fuller, PhD, Director of the Health and Fitness Studies program at Regis. “It also helps children sleep well at night. If that’s not reason enough to attend the fair, there will be fun prizes and free snacks too!”

Parents worry over childhood obesity and how it can start children on a path to health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Add to this list, emotional problems like poor self-esteem and depression. The good news is that even small improvements to diet and exercise habits can reduce childhood obesity and help protect the health of children now and in the future.

Students in the Health and Fitness Studies program at Regis College have designed and organized an event to promote physical activity and healthy nutrition to children preschool to elementary school age and their parents. The goal is to increase parents’ understanding of the types of physical activities children should participate in, to provide children with fun movement opportunities, and to provide ideas for healthy nutrition.

During the event children will visit stations set up around the Regis College gymnasium to participate in activities such as relay races, basketball shooting, hopscotch, scooters and balancing activities.
