WESTON, Mass. – The summer program, Foundations of Algebra I, has been so popular that a second section has been added from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on August 21-25. The class, taught by Middle School math teachers Tori Wilbur and Samantha Vandergrift is intended for students who will be taking Geometry, Algebra II, Chemistry, or Physics in the fall and want to brush up their Algebra skills, or for students who want an extra boost before taking Algebra I this fall. The class, which is open to students entering grades 8 or 9 in September, will reinforce computational and algebraic skills as well as strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Some of the target topics include: operations with integers (positive and negative numbers), order of operations, solving equations, ratios, proportions, the coordinate system, graphing linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations, quadratics, exponents and roots, functions, and polynomials.
The small class size of 14 students maximum enrollment, along with the two professionals in the classroom, will allow for individual instruction and hands-on activities. Classes consist of brief lectures followed by problem-solving individually and as a group. No book is required for this course -- all worksheets, activities and solutions will be provided by the teachers.
August 21 - 25, 2017, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Cost: $450.
