Temple Shalom launches its new "SHACHARIT" Education Program

SHACHARIT is Temple Shalom's new, first of its kind, innovative program for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The SHACHARIT Education program at Temple Shalom in Newton is now welcoming new families this fall! SHACHARIT is Temple Shalom’s new, first of its kind, innovative program for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. Join us and explore a living Judaism filled with opportunities for connection and hands-on Jewish learning. Go on a robotic exploration of Israel, explore Hebrew through movement, learn about Jewish values and “mensch munch” on environmentally sustainable snacks, explore your “dramatic” side while learning Jewish history, share in our spiritual and thoughtful family tefila (prayer) and so much more! Our program welcomes interfaith families, the LGBTQ community and children of diverse learning styles.

“I am excited to teach our students that Judaism is real and relevant to their lives and to show them how it interacts with everything they do and how they can use it to connect with one another. We are going to teach kids to experience Judaism through STEAM (science, teaching, engineering, the arts and music/math) subjects. Our goal is for Judaism to come alive at SHACHARIT through teaching Judaica and Hebrew alongside robotics, animation, game design, music, movement and drama. It all goes back to making Judaism alive and relevant,” said Rabbi Allison Berry, Temple Shalom’s Associate Rabbi for Education, when asked about this exciting new program.
