Veterans Service Dog Initiative

A veteran founded organization providing service dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD.

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an umbrella term covering several issues ranging from nerve damage to hyper vigilance. Over the years, research has shown that dogs can help people suffering from PTSD by providing comfort and support.

Veterans Service Dog Initiative is a veteran founded program that trains and places service dogs with veterans suffering from PTSD. With the support of doctors and staff at the Veteran’s Administration, VSDI will select qualified veterans and guide them through the process of acquiring and training a service dog.

Roy is a founding member of VSDI. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Honorably discharged, Roy suffers from PTSD which manifests itself in a form of hyper vigilance. Roy is constantly on guard and uneasy. Service dogs have been especially successful in helping people suffering from hyper vigilance because the dog maintains vigilance, allowing the handler to relax his guard.
