Today the Wayland/Weston Warcats had the shortest bus ride of their seven away games that brought them to Framingham to play the Flyers at Loring Arena. The Warcats had been traveling about 400 miles on bus rides that had them playing games as far north as Salem, NH and as far south as New Bedford since late December.
In a very close defensive game where Wayland/Weston goalie Libby Lichter and Framingham goalie Ashley Castriotta proved to be up to the task, Framingham held onto a 1-0 score until about two minutes left in the game. Until that time Framingham goalie Castriotta had frustrated the Warcat offence which had peppered her with many shots and tip in attempts. Then things just clicked for Wayland/Weston. Mogan Griffin took a shot for the right of the goal hoping for a tip in, Patty Atkinson took a shot at the rebound and Gianna Fargnoli was able to push the puck under Castriotta’s pad to tie the game. Libby Lichter and the defense turned back the Flyers last attempts to score after the Warcats had taken a penalty in the last minute of play. The Warcats ended the long “away game” set 5-1-1. Next game is tomorrow night as Wayland/Weston hosts Boston Latin at 7:50PM at the MacDowell Arena at the Rivers School.
